Have headlights on at daytime: Police tell motorcyclists
Motorcyclists in the Western Province are requested to travel with their headlights switched on even during daytime from tomorrow, police said.
They said according to studies carried motorcycle accidents had been reduced in other countries by adopting this method. Police said it was being introduced here on an experimental basis.
They said If successful, it would be legalised and introduced countrywide.
Meanwhile the police said that from tomorrow the law on heavy vehicles having to use the lane on the left would be strictly implemented.
The lane on the right should only be used when overtaking.

Vavuniya Circuit Meet 2014
The inaugural “Vavuniya Circuit Meet” the newest addition to the homeland motor racing arena, was flagged off this morning (19th January 2014) at the Vavuniya racing track with the participation of a large number of spectators. The first ever racing meet in Vavuniya district was organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force in association with the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC ) coincides to the Thaipongal Festive Season.
The “Vavuniya Circuit Meet 2014” consisted of a car race, motor cycle race, push bicycle race, Ladies Scooter event, Three Wheeler race and a Kite show competition only for the participants from the Vavuniya district. The car and the bike racing competition was worked off at the Vavuniya Airstrip with the participation of professional racing drivers and riders in the local racing scene. Meanwhile, young men and women from Vavuniya, Mullaithive and Killinochchi area participated in the push bicycle race, ladies scooter event and three wheeler races.
Chairman of the motor racing committee Air Commodore JSI Wijemanne, Base Commander SLAF Base Vavuniya Group Captain DK Wanigasooriya, Senior Officers, Officers as well as the airmen/women participated with their families.
The "Vavuniya Circuit Meet 2014" brought about a novel experience to the people in the north. In fact this was a great opportunity to strengthen the mutual understanding of the people of the Northern Province.
